COVID-19-Related Two-Year Time to Degree Extensions

Students who are currently enrolled in Masters, Doctoral or Certificate programs and have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may make a request through their local academic unit for an exception to time to degree academic policy in order to extend their time for conferral by up to two years. Approvals for such extensions will be at the discretion of the Dean/Director after review.

This temporary policy alteration does not apply to advancement to candidacy extension requests or for any requests in which the total time to degree extensions will total more than two years. All such requests will continue to be reviewed in accordance with existing policy and procedures.

Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their advisor or program administration prior to making any requests. Students in need of further information should contact their local academic unit or the Office of Graduate Education at provgrad@gmu.edu.
