What is a Provost?
The provost and executive vice president is George Mason University’s chief academic officer charged by the Board of Visitors and the president with overseeing all colleges, schools, and academic support units.
The provost and executive vice president has primary responsibility for George Mason's academic mission, including supporting scholarly excellence among faculty members and fostering academic success for students on all four campuses. Additionally, in conjunction with the senior administration of the university, the provost is responsible for the allocation of resources for academic programs and functions.
Supporting the provost in these efforts is a team of vice presidents, vice provosts, deans, and professional staff, all devoted to sustaining George Mason’s mission.

Our students are challenging us more than ever to create an accessible, innovative, and inclusive learning environment where all members of the university community are welcomed, valued, and supported.
The university now serves more than 40,000 students, and 2023's incoming class is the largest, most diverse, and strongest academically in our history. The pace and scale of growth can seem overwhelming at times as it puts greater demands on our faculty, staff, and infrastructure. But as we grow in size, we are also rising to the challenge of meeting those demands by differentiating our educational experience, strengthening our research and innovation enterprise, and continuing to cultivate a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
