Entrepreneur Opportunities

Mason provides the services and programs you need to move your research and innovation into the commercial market, either through third-party licensing or through the creation of a new startup.

Mason’s Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is the first stop for faculty conducting innovative research with commercialization potential. Our team will work with you to develop a customized commercialization plan that incorporates your hopes and expectations for commercialization, and provides a comprehensive commercialization pathway.

Technology commercialization plans can include any of the following components:

  • Patenting and copyright services
  • Managing intellectual property development
  • Commercialization training (I-Corps)
  • Licensing intellectual property
  • Creating strategic business partnerships

In exchange for giving third-party entities the right to use and commercialize innovations and technologies developed at Mason, the university often receives licensing income. Mason distributes a portion of this licensing income to the inventors who created the technologies.
